Moon Theme Lesson Plan for Goodnight Moon

Make this moon theme snack for your homeschool moon or outer space lessons and read books about the Moon. We started our enchanted evening by watching, "Diego's Moonlight Rescue," a Nickelodeon DVD. I bet you can find Moonlight Rescue on Netflix now. The kids loved this one. Enjoy!

Moon theme lesson plans and ideas are at the bottom of this post.

Good Night Moon Story with companion projects about the Moon
Diego's Moonlight Rescue: A good companion movie for a lesson about the moon.

The moon is referred to as "Luna" in our house. Mayhem constantly checks for "her" behind the clouds and when it starts to get dark. She says, "Luna is my friend." We watched this cartoon about the moon every night for a month!

How to Make Crescent Roll Moons Recipe

Dinner:  Butter Spray, Parmesan Cheese, Crescent Rolls, Garlic Butter.

Dessert:  Butter Spray, Sugar, Cinnamon, Crescent Rolls.

We bought our crescent rolls at ALDI for super cheap. I always save the leftover condiments, so we have garlic butter from Papa John's for the recipe and to dip too!

The Tooth Fairy is watching.

So, the toothfairy struck again.

(Be sure to click around for free clipart)

Last night before going to sleep, Jake informed me that he lost his tooth...  literally. He refused to go to sleep until we found it. Mommy won the battle. I explained that the Tooth Fairy had a list of all the teeth that came out each day. Every time someone lost a tooth a bell rang at her house. She knows she is behind schedule and will surely come to our house first (in other words; GET TO BED).

On his way to bed, Jake grumbled, "If the tooth fairy doesn't come tonight, I'm over it!"

Around midnight, I tripped over some shoes, fumbled to turn the volume down on his television, and did the necessary deed. He rolled over and looked at me! So, I calmly kissed him good night and went back to bed.

This morning, the noisy Daddy woke him up. Daddy found the money sticking out of a pillow and handed it to Jake. When I entered his room to get his clothes, Jake held up the empty baggy. Confused, I asked him if the tooth fairy had come.

"No!"

"No?  Where's your tooth?"

"I told you, I lost it!"

"Ohwww...  I thought you lost the whole bag!  You lost just the tooth?"

"YES! She didn't come. She didn't take the bag!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes; I have $2, but I think Daddy just gave it to me right now!"

"?#$% ^&!"

Well, I don't know about Jake, but I'm over it. Next time it is Daddy's deal.

Post Note:
To his credit, Daddy tried to explain he had found the money under the pillow, but what kid is gonna believe that?

Toothfairy Stories and Clipart

Last night, the tooth fairy must have stayed out late partying.

Today, she's a no-show, no-call. Apparently, she has a hang-over.  How rude!  She didn't even call to apologize.

Of course, I didn't tell my son this theory. No, I thought it best to shelter him from the wild doings of a floozie fairy at least until he's a little older.

Print as a gift tag from the tooth fairy.

What do you say to a six-year-old who let his tooth float by a thread for a week, carefully sheltering it with his tongue, as each murderous morsel attempted to fling it to death?  He protected that tooth like a precious diamond. With each day, the idea of the gifts it would bring filled his little head with joy- and now this...

I was up late blogging, learning the ropes to make buttons and baubles. I simply refused to stay up past 'Saturday Night Live'. Egads! When the ending credits started rolling, I turned off my monitor and headed to bed. Discreetly, I tip-toed into my kid's bedrooms to confirm that everyone was safe, sound, and breathing. I turned down "Todd World", and then I hit the hay.

The next thing I remember, the sun began seeping through the crack in my curtains beckoning my busy children out of their beds. My son awoke groggy. I sent him to the potty first to buy some thinking time. He moved slowly, as I waited impatiently.

"Jake, hurry I need to pee too!"

He didn't hurry. In fact, he stopped in his tracks holding a tiny, plastic bag in the air.

"She didn't come."

"What?"  I said in mock shock.

"The tooth fairy didn't come!  I still have my tooth."

I interjected, "Don't you have to pee? I know I do." Then, I danced around the issue both literally and figuratively while searching for a fabulous excuse. As I waited for my turn at the potty, I said, "I bet you got up too early and nearly caught her in the act. Let's try again tonight."

His toothless frown turned to an angry rant, "No!  I didn't see her. She just didn't come."

Finally, I got my turn at the potty and took a moment to gather my runaway thoughts. Returning with a renewed mind and spirit, I explained that the tooth fairy is a very busy lady. "I stayed up too late last night, and we all got up too early this morning. She didn't have a chance to sneak into your room. She probably planned to come back, but got busy with all the other kid's teeth. I bet she feels terrible! I am sure she'll make it up to you tonight."

And then...

I reprimanded his Daddy who had tucked him into bed the night before. "A little help here please. I can't remember everything!"

That floozie fairy better not forget us again tonight! I'm gonna set a trap...

How to make an Easy Button Code for your blog Generator

Have you figured out how to make an easy button code for you blog sidebar

Okay...  I consider myself an intelligent person.  A fast learner.  Design savvy.  Let me just say, HTML boggles my mind!  I tried to make a button to link to "Grab My Button" on Bloggy Moms and it took me days!  It was either cheesy and unprofessional, not the nice 125 x 125, or completely too much mumbo jumbo for my mind to comprehend.

How to make an Easy Button Code for your blog Generator

How to make an easy button code for you blog.

So, I finally made a picture with GIMP (shareware program) but you can use any picture editing program even MS WORD ART.  I copied the picture, pasted it into a post, then right clicked to 'copy image url'.  After that, I just plugged it into this awesome code generator.

Blogger Tips: You'll need a place to host your image. I use my Facebook Photo Album.

Then, with blogger, I added two gadgets. First, the code HTML and then a picture.  Mine is a little different. I chose green for the code background instead of white. I am teaching myself GIMP so after several failed attempts I stuck with the tiled logo. Hope this helps.

We can do it!  Look at my Sidebar for the finished product.  Oh  yeah!  Grab My Button, please! Here's another link someone gave me. It might be more professional. Both work great!

Recycle Scrabble Games for Language Arts Literacy Centers

How to Recycle Scrabble into a Literacy Center for Sight Words and Language Arts

Scrabble. Kids love it! Don't be a stickler for the rules. Let your preschoolers play by their own rules or follow these. You'll be amazed at their ability to sound out sight words or guess what the word will be when it's finished. Scroll down to see how we recycled Scrabble games into a literacy center for sight words. Enjoy!

How to Use Scrabble as a Preschool Literacy Center

Things to do with Scrabble: Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse. We placed all of the letters right side up in the Scrabble box. We built sight words like Foot and made magic by switching the two o's for two e's to get Feet. See if you can think of more words. The kids were giggling as they realized what was about to happen.

Tree. Leaf. Leap. Roof. Reef. Wreath....

Think of patterns to keep your little reader on the right track. Let them guess. Guessing helps them learn new sight words.  For example, I built coal but my son said it was cola. His mind saw all of the letters for cola. Praise them on a great guess and awesome letter recognition. Then, show them how coal can magically become cola!

Then, Jake thought this was the coolest thing he had ever seen.  Don't force it. Don't make them read it if they'd rather build nonsense words on the letter rack. Whatever they choose to do they have tangible letters and they are visualizing them. Letter play reinforces letter recognition, and if it's fun they will keep coming back for more.

Help them spell their names or yours. Let them build words and have you guess what they are- even if they aren't real words. Keep encouraging them to use letters in a fun way. My son began reading at two and half without the "Your Baby Can Read" products.  I never did flash cards or forced it. It just happened with fun ideas.  Never underestimate the power of "WORD WORLD" and "BETWEEN THE LIONS".

You will need more letters to spell "PIZZA". Make your own from cardboard or collect old games at garage sales. Scrabble Letters are great for crafts:  personalize picture frames, Greek paddles, or toy bins.  Let your imagination run wild. SCRABBLE is more than just a game.

Each time your kids do a craft project with the letter, they are learning!  Just be careful, the tiles could pose a choking hazard for little ones.

Oh and a post note:  In kindergarten, Jake read at 12th grade level! Thanks to PBS and fun. Don't expect those results, just appreciate that your child is learning and enjoying it!

Stand on construction paper and trace your feet. Bigger feet need two sheets, little feet only require one. Jake thought this was fun. He loved the idea of taking his shoes and socks off to do a craft project.

Glue the feet together in a fan shape. The more feet you trace, the fuller your turkey feathers will turn out. Then, glue the fist cut-out into the middle of the feet-feathers.

The fist is the turkey's head and neck. Add feet, eyes, beak, and a gobbler. We added a body, because we thought he looked off balance. Additional feathers solve that problem.

When it's all done, cut up an old fridge magnet, and glue it to the back of the turkey with tacky glue. Pictured below is the head from Amanda's Turkey Snack Cup.
