What is Yummly?

Wondering How to use Yummly?

Yum. Yummy. Yummly. What the heck? Have you heard of Yummly but have no idea what it means? What is Yummly? If you are wondering how to use Yummly, we've got answers. Enjoy!

What is Yummly? Get Recipes
What is Yummly? Get Recipes!

Yummly is a social media platform for sharing recipes. We'd seen it floating around the internet. We even had quite a few nice referrals from Yummly. But, time. Oh time. There just weren't enough hours in the day for Yummly. Until one day...

One of our friends in the real world, who doesn't do a lot with social media, mentioned that she would rather use Yummly than Pinterest to find recipes. Huh. That's weird... What is Yummly?

She started writing recipe posts for us, and we started Yummly-ing them. Well, will you look at that! Yummly is giving us some nice referrals. More referrals than some of the major search engines. And, since Pinterest referrals are down- what happened Pinterest? We decided to try our hands at Yummly!

How do you use Yummly?
How do you use Yummly? This is our recipe box.

Like everything, there is a learning curve. Somehow on our recipe box, we have posts that aren't recipes. So, by the time you've read this, we'll have cleaned those out of there (hopefully).

So, what is Yummly?

Yummly is your recipe box, the one you have on the kitchen counter, but now you can have it on your kitchen counter or in your tablet or phone and save counter space!

Here's what Yummly has to say:                                                      How does Yummly work?
Yummly puts every recipe in the world in your pocket. The most powerful recipe search, the recipe sites you love, your digital recipe box, recipe recommendations just for you, and a smart shopping list - all with you wherever you go. Yummly has the #1 iPhone, iPad and Android apps in addition to millions of website visitors. As recipes get more Yums, they get exposed more often throughout all of our platforms and features.

How to use Yummly

To use Yummly, go here and sign up: Yummly Sign Up.

Great, but now your recipe box is empty. How do you get recipes on Yummly? How do you get them into your recipe box?

Here's what Yummly has to say:
How do I get my recipes on Yummly?
The best way to get your recipes on Yummly is to add the Yum button to your blog or website. Once the Yum button us up, make sure you or your readers Yum your recipes so we can make sure to get them all on Yummly.

How do I Become a Yummly Publisher?

This seems like a good question. Why do you want to become a Yummly Publisher? More Traffic. More Notoriety. More Yum!

Here's what Yummly has to say:                                                      How do I get featured on Yummly?
Follow the steps above (add the Yum button, announce to your readers, and then fill out this form). Once you have taken all of the steps, you will be eligible for inclusion in various features on our website, apps, social channels, and email.
What are some best practices to increase the exposure of my recipes?
More Yums on your recipes equals more traffic. Bloggers who educate their readers, encourage use of Yummly, and promote their Yummly publisher page see more Yums and more traffic. Volume of recipes is also a factor. More recipes on Yummly will lead to more referral traffic from us.
How do I manage my publisher page on Yummly?
Currently, there is not an option for you to access and change your publisher page, but we plan to add this feature very soon. In the meantime, we will update your page for you if you fill out this form.
How do I find my blog's publisher page?
If you've added the Yum button and started yumming your recipes, a publisher page will be automatically created for your blog on Yummly. To find this, you can go to your personal user profile on Yummly and check to see if the recipe you Yummed has processed yet. Once it has processed, it will show a link on the recipe card to your publisher page. If you need help finding this page, email publishers@yummly.com.
Have a question that isn't already answered on our help desk? Email publishers@yummly.com

Important Note:
We read how to add the code for Blogger on another blog. It was missing a few steps. So, our code didn't work. Carefully, follow the instructions here and be sure to look for two instances of 'post-header'. We found 3, but only the two with this text matter:
'post-header-line-1' .

That's it, your own your way to Yummly recipes!

How to Make Breakfast Pizza with Sauce

Ingredients:
Pizza Crust
1T butter or margarine
3/4 t. salt, divided
1/8 t. pepper
1T flour
1 c. milk, divided
1t. Italian seasoning
8 eggs

Choice of Toppings: Such as mushrooms, onions, peppers, sausage, ham, bacon and 1 c. shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Crust:
Use your favorite pre-made crust, bread dough, or recipe of your choosing. Roll the crust into a 14 inch circle and build up the edges slightly. Bake the crust (375 degrees) at least partially before adding toppings.

While the crust is rising and/or baking, prepare your sauce and toppings as follows:

Sauce:
Melt 1T butter or margarine in a small pan.
Add 1/4t. salt and 1/8t. pepper and 1T flour.
Mix well and cook 1 minute.
Add 1/2 c. milk and stir constantly over medium heat until thickened.

Eggs:
In a large bowl, beat 8 eggs.
Add 1/2 c.milk.
Season with 1/2 t. salt and 1 t. Italian seasoning.
Lightly grease a skillet with cooking spray and allow the egg mixture to set up on the bottom of the skillet.
Using a spatula, lift and fold the cooked eggs, allowing the uncooked mixture to flow to the bottom of the pan.
Continue until eggs are completely cooked, but still moist.

Toppings:
Thinly slice vegetables- onions, mushrooms, green or red peppers. Thoroughly cook meat toppings- sausage, bacon, or ham.

Assemble pizza.

Once the crust is baked, but not browned, apply a layer of sauce.  Spoon the scrambled eggs on top of the sauce. Add toppings.  Finally, top with about 1 c. shredded Mozzarella Cheese.

Bake the pizza at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is browned.

Dairy Free Non-GMO Milk Sign Me Up!

Dairy Free Milk Alternative Perfect for Milkshakes

Silk Cashew Milk is a Dairy free and Non-GMO milk alternative. We are a family with allergies. We aren't lactose intolerant (though my son tells everyone he is), but we are allergic to MILK. Rather than going dairy free, I often drink it anyway. I like it in my cereal. I like ice cream. I like yogurt. I would be content to live on dairy alone. I suffer or take an allergy pill. My son isn't so lucky. His allergic reactions require him to live completely dairy free. We have experimented with many dairy free milks including soy (we are allergic) and almond. We've never like the unsweetened versions... until now.

Silk Cashew Milk is a Dairy free and Non-GMO milk alternative.
Silk Cashew Milk is a Dairy free and Non-GMO milk alternative.

When the box arrived at our doorstep, we were surprised to see both sweetened and unsweetened. We ran into the kitchen and tore open the sweetened Silk Cashew Milk.

The Mommy: "Mmm, that's pretty good! I don't know if I'd want it on my cereal though. It'd make it take like cashews."

The Brother: "It's different. I like cashews. I like Silk Almond Milk better, but this is okay."

The Sister: "I'm not trying it!"

    The Brother: "It's good!"

The Mommy: "Try just a little sip."

The Sister: "There. I don't like it. See?"

Then, we got busy. We didn't eat cereal or drink milk for a few days.

The Mommy: "We need to try the Unsweetened Silk Cashew Milk."

The Sister: "Go right ahead, I'm not drinking it."

The Brother: "Sure, I'll try it."

The Mommy: "Wow! I like this better than the Sweetened Silk Milk!"

The Brother: "It is better! It still has a cashew-y after taste though. Hey, do we still have those cashews?"

The Sister: "I will never try it."

The Mommy: "This tastes more like real milk. It is creamy like milk. I would like this on my cereal. Yes, we still have cashews."

The Brother: "Yay! I love cashews."

So, you can see, everyone has a differing opinion. You should try it and decide for yourself. I have a little disclaimer. I'm struggling with some medical issues. This past year, I have acquired many food allergies that never existed in the past. I liked the Silk Unsweetened Cashew Milk so much that, against my instincts, I had two cups. Shortly after, I began sneezing, coughing, and tightening in the chest. This is similar to my milk allergy reaction. I don't seem to have a problem with Silk Almond Milk. I put a little on my cereal a few times per week. I would be concerned for anyone with a nut-allergy. Do I have one? The verdict is out, I will be tested next month. Pretty much I am allergic to everything. I just want to share my true experience with you. Surely, if you have a nut-allergy, you wouldn't attempt to drink a milk made from nuts.

On a more positive note, I would LOVE to have a milkshake made with this milk. Some homemade Silk Cashew Milk ice cream, chocolate syrup, cashews... and for me, maybe a Benadryl on the side.

Over at Kitchen Treaty, I found a recipe for this amazing vegan dairy free cashew milkshake. The recipe doesn't call for Silk Cashew Milk, but it would make it so much better! I'm not a health nut; I'd add some chocolate syrup too.

Dairy Free Vegan Cashew Milkshake Recipe
Dairy Free Cashew Milkshake at Kitchen Treaty.

I like this milk because it is dairy-free, non-gmo, no high fructose corn syrup, all those good things that make drinking it even more worth a little sneezing.

This is a great milk replacement option for vegans. It has twice the calcium as regular milk.

For those who like the facts:

    25 calories per serving

Creamier than skim milk with fewer calories

Made with the special creaminess of cashews

    0g saturated fat and cholesterol

50% more calcium than dairy milk

Free of dairy, soy, lactose, gluten, casein, egg and MSG

Verified by the Non-GMO Project's product verification program

No artificial colors, flavors or funny business

So, what are you waiting for? Try it. You might like it- especially if you like cashews!

Grandma's Homemade Applesauce: Life is Good in the Kitchen, The Heart of the Home

Miss Old-Fashioned, Homemade Applesauce like Grandma Used to Make?

When I think about childhood memories, my mind often wanders to the kitchen. The Food Network has a program dedicated to life in the kitchen, "The Kitchen" features host, Katie Lee, surrounded by beautiful LG Electronics. The Kitchen is fully equipped with LG Appliances from the Refrigerator and the Ovens to the Microwave and the LG Cook-top. It is the perfect place to make Grandma's homemade applesauce. Enjoy!

Grandma's Homemade Applesauce Recipe: Life is Good in the Kitchen, The Heart of the Home
My grandparents and the cousins circa 1975.
Grandma's Homemade Applesauce traditionally made by my Aunt Verna.

I remember peeling and coring apples on an old appliance that attached to the kitchen table. After we used the apple-corer-peeler, everything went into what could have just as easily been a torture device, but somehow we weren't frightened by it.

We begged to have a go at peeling the apple and then placing the pieces in the apple grinder. As an adult, I realize it is far less complicated to grab a knife and just peel my apple. The grinder we used is now obsolete, but these memories have stuck with me. Recently, my mother reminded me that my grandparents moved from the family homestead when I was just 9 years old. Funny, those times in Grandma's kitchen feel like yesterday.

We'd go to an orchard or a friend's house and pick our own apples and then bring them back to make "Grandma's Homemade Applesauce." Grandma's kitchen was tiny and crowded with Grandma, my mother, three aunts, and all the little cousins running in and out the backdoor. The table took up all of the free space in the kitchen with just a small, one person width around the perimeter. It didn't matter. No one seemed to notice. It was good to be so close to each other, working together to create something to share with the entire family. Each time, we ate the applesauce, we'd remember this day. I love the homemade applesauce to this day, but we no longer make it this way.

If I'm lucky, my aunt will share some of her special sauce with me. My kids like it, but they have no idea why it tastes so good to me. Memories are made in the kitchen. Life is good in the kitchen. We all need to spend more time around the table, getting to know each other, learning new skills, and enjoying the heart of the home.

I'm sharing Grandma's Homemade Applesauce Recipe and process, so you can make your own kitchen memories. I want you to experience how good life is in the kitchen.

    Old-Fashioned Homemade Freezer Applesauce

6-8 Tart Apples, washed, peeled, and quartered. (Red & Golden Delicious work well-

or your favorite, just know that some apples are softer and/or sweeter than others)

    Freezer Bags

    1 Tbs. Lemon Juice

    1 Tbs. Butter

1 Cinnamon Stick or 1 tsp. Cinnamon

    1 Tbs. to 1/2 C. Water

    1/4 C. Sugar per Pound.

In large sauce pan, begin with 1 Tbs. Water, Apples, Cinnamon, and Lemon Juice. Depending on your apples you will use more or less water. Many apples don't need any water added at all. Bring to a boil and then cover and cook over low heat until desired consistency. Some people prefer chunky applesauce, so for that the cook time is less.

Stir in butter and sugar to taste, if desired.

Grandma used a food mill to strain the applesauce. You can use a blender, food processor, or leave them as they are.

Remove from heat and let cool.

Spoon into freezer bags leaving 1/2 - 1" head space.

    Flatten and stack to freeze.

Applesauce is good for at least 1 year frozen and 2 weeks once thawed and opened.
