• 1 - National Pig Day - Hooray! I love Pigs. Make homemade clay and make a pig today. It is also Peanut Butter Day, we've got some fun things to do with Peanut Butter. Peanut Butter Recipes and Peanut Butter Brownies.
• 2 - Dr. Seuss Day - Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday with a fake surprise cake and Sue Snue or Daisy Head Maisy Activities for Kids or maybe some Cat and the Hat Birthday Party Favors. March 2nd is also Read Across America Day.
• 3 - In the United States is National Anthem Day - The Star Spangled Banner became our National Anthem on this day in 1931. Patriotic Crafts and Activities
• 6 - Dentist Day - Click here for Tooth Fairy Tales. 
• 8 - International Women's Day and Working Woman Day
• 9 - This Blogger's Birthday - Make a cake to celebrate, Oh and it is also another lovely ladies birthday, Barbie! Oh my, she is only a decade older than me, how can that be? Yes, Barbie's Birthday is today.
• 10 - Genealogy Day - This is a great day to design a family tree. Here is a free family tree printable.
• 11 - First Basketball Game. Know who invented the basketball? How about celebrating with a game to play in the classroom or learning about things to do in Indiana (this blog's hometown).
• 12 - Girl Scouts was founded - We've got lots of activities and articles about Girl Scouts. In celebration, plan a community service project for girls.
• 13 - Good Samaritan Day - Plan a random act of kindness. Today is also the day the planet Uranus was discovered. How about doing some futuristic activities for kids?
• 14 - Albert Einsteins Birthday - (1879) Free Albert Einstein Printable. It is also Learn about Butterflies Day. So, make a butterfly craft today. Do you think Albert took times to enjoy butterflies? Oh, and of course, it is National Pi Day, that is an intriguing coincidence. Who knew Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day. Divine intervention? What? You don't know what Pi day is? Math! Pi is a name given to the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter. Pi = 3.14
• When is the Ides of March? Today! March 15th.
• 17 - St. Patrick's Day - and the Rubber Band was invented. What things can you do with rubber bands? Saint Patrick's Day activities for kids.
• 18 - First walk in space - here are some space activities for kids.
• 19 - National Quilting Day - make a quilt square craft today. It is also Poultry Day! Poultry, birds of a different feather flock together! We've got ducks and chickens here. How to make a chicken hat.
• 20 - International Earth Day - Check out our Earth Day Activities for Kids or Healthy Earth Day Recipes. Speaking of poultry, today is Big Bird's Birthday! Learn to draw Birds. And, depending how you figure it today or tomorrow (21) is the first day of Spring.
• 21 - Children's Poetry Day - Write a poem today! Haiku's are fun. Iambic Pentameter is funner... um - more fun!
• 24 - Houdini's Birthday - (1874) in celebration watch me pull a  chicken sandwich out of a hat! 
• 28 - Something on a Stick Day - that's fun, make a stick puppet and have a little play today and then go eat a corn dog.
• 31 - Cesar Chavez Day

• January 1 - while this day is known to everyone around the world as New Year's Day, it is also the birthday of America's beloved Betsy Ross maker of our U.S. flag. (1752) Click for Free American Flag Coloring Page Printables.
• January 7 - Harlem Globetrotters started as the Savoy Big Five. (1926)
• January 8 - National Clean Off Your Desk Day. Maybe if you tell the kids that, they will find it motivating?
• January 9 - National Apricot Day. So find some dried apricots or dry your own and make an apricot doll. Wait. They do that with dried apples. Well, do it anyway - invent that!
• January 10 - Volunteer Firefighter's Day, now that's a good day. It honors some brave folks. How about a little fireman appreciation. Do some crafting with Dalmatians or maybe make some hats or play fireman with an old cut up hose.
• January 11 - Got Milk? Well, you better get some because today is Milk Day. If you want a really obscure special occasion it is also my parent's anniversary!
• January 13 - The Frisbee was invented in Connecticut, because what would we do without the Frisbee really? I mean it was the original boredom buster, right. Dogs love it. I had a boyfriend once who loved it. And then, he got a dog so...
• January 14 - Speaking of dogs, the 15th is Dress up your Pet Day. You could dress your pet up as a Volunteer Firefighter or a Dalmatian; that'd be a hoot.
• January 14 - Speaking of hoots or birds anyway, It is Bald Eagle Day. Do not dress up your bald eagle today. I repeat, do not dress up your bald eagle today. Have you seen their talons. Yep, this is a bad idea.
• January 15 - National Hat Day. Hello, I've got some hat crafts. I can help you with that day! Peruse these walls or these frames, you will find many more hats for holidays.
• January 17 - Ben Franklin's Birthday. How about a fun science project for preschoolers to celebrate.
• January 19 - It is Archery day. No, kids it didn't start with the Hunger Games, it has been around a long, long, time. Why not paint a bull's eye in color wheel colors so you can learn two things at once. You know, kill two birds with one stone. Ahem. One arrow, I mean.
• January 20 - Penguin Awareness Day, although Penguins are birds please don't go throwing rocks or shooting arrows at them. You could color a coloring page for the letter P though.
• January 24 - Global Belly Laugh Day. Celebrate the gift of laughter! 1:24 p.m. (your time) Smile! Throw your hands in the air and LOL for real!
• January 28 - Daisy Day. I have a Daisy Hat Craft, so you can choose do you use it for Hat Day or Daisy Day? Maybe plant a flower seed instead.
• January 29 - National Puzzle Day. Put together a puzzle, glue it onto cardboard, and frame it. That sounds fun. Not. I dislike puzzles. #dislikepuzzles Have the kids draw a picture, glue it to a cereal box panel, let it dry, and let them cut it up. That sounds better; yeah go do that. Give them a baggie so they can take it home and show their Mom. I sure hope she doesn't feel the same way about puzzles that I do.  ;)

Easy Preschool Advent Calendar from cardboard tubes.

So, we save our toilet tubes. Yes, I am one of those people (I save my jars too) here is a post from one who is not, it made me LOL. Just imagine the possibilities?

Jar lids make great messy spoon holders, paint mixing trays, and chimes. Jars make amazing things! When I was a kid, my Dad had a glass cutting kit, and he'd make all kinds of "fancy" glasses from jars. (You know, just like Waterford Crystal.) 

Toilet Tubes are even better. They just cry out for re-purposation. Do you like that word? I just invented it. There, now I copyrighted it too. 12/2012. Maybe, I can trademark it?  "You're fired!" Wait, what was I saying? Toilet Tubes and Cardboard Tubes = Awesome craftability.

So... we save our toilet roll tubes. Except we moved, and then we didn't, so I had to start all over. I barely had enough for 25 days, and they were all different diameters and lengths. We had fun, but it wasn't perfect. Remember, it's the fun that counts.

To make our Advent Calendar tree, we took an idea from something similar we saw on Pinterest and it sparked an idea.  You know, how that goes. Hmmmmm, very pinteresting. I wonder how I can recreate it to make it my own?

Ow, my brain just exploded a little! I'm going to get my crafty blogging buddies together and make a contest. I'll call it, "The American Crafter" and we'll find something pinteresting and give everyone an assignment to make it their own and you can vote but not by phone- maybe just by comments. Copyright, Trademark, and Hashtag that please.

I do that a lot when I write on Sundays. It's my little form of meditation. So who's in? Are you up for a Voice/American Idol style Crafter contest? 

I'll make the winner a handmade, toilet tube crown with a fancy jar torch. (wink, wink)

What? You came here to make an Advent Calendar or a cute holiday decoration?  Here goes:

You will need 25 Toilet Roll Tubes minus the toilet paper, but I guess you could use the toilet rolls, now wouldn't that be pinteresting?

Tape or a Hot Glue Gun

Wrapping Paper or Scraps 
(Yes, of course, I save the little bits of paper from the previous year that aren't big enough to wrap a package. They are so pretty, I can't bare to throw them away. No, I talk about hoarding, but I'm not really a hoarder not yet anyway. My cat is alive and well, The food in my fridge isn't expired, and you can walk through the rooms of our house just fine. Well, most of them.)

Construction Paper

1.  Cut little squares of wrapping paper and roll onto your tubes. Attach with tape.

2.  Decide how many will be in each row to taper to one on top.

3.  Attach the bottom row together with a little piece of tape inside the end of two tubes.

4.  Stack the next row. Repeat step 3. Choose to glue first row to second row or use tape.

5.  Repeat.

6.  Cut out a Star or Angel from Construction Paper and glue to top of Christmas Tree.

7.  Fill each slot with little gifts or fun notes until Christmas Day.
