My nephew has already moved into campus, so I wanted to send him a care package to spoil him. I wondered what to send and started looking at Pinterest for ideas. I wanted to think outside of the box and send items besides just food and treats.

Here is what he is getting for his first care package surprise box:

I decided to include the shaving supplies because a starving college student may forego shaving his beard for food. I want to help him always look his best. Since he is starting out his freshman year at Purdue, he has so many new things to remember! He may not get around to all of the comforts of home. So, when I stocked up for my daughter, I thought it would be a perfect time to grab some for his college care package.

Recently, while planning a trip to Charlotte, N.C. our guest blogger, Michelle, decided to Google if there was a badge her daughter could earn while on holiday. Michelle discovered that the Charlotte Girl Scout Service Unit did offer a badge, and it helped them plan fun activities during their vacation stay in North Carolina.

Depending on the age of your scout, she can also earn badges as she prepares for the trip. Plan a trip to earn a Girl Scout Badge.

When in Savannah, Georgia, take the Girl Scout Discovery Tour to earn a badge. Old Town Trolley Tours offers the "Savannah Try it" badge.

Since this is the birthplace of the Girl Scouts, there are badges for almost everything. These badges include: Ghost Tours, Juliette Gordon Low House, Telfair Museums and many more. A visit to the Girl Scout Founder's House is a must.

Even the hostel you stay in may offer a badge. Always call ahead for details. In Chicago, the hostel where they stayed offered the hostelling badge pictured above.

If you are doing a staycation, many local museums offer Girl Scout and Boy Scout badges. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis offers a badge for visiting their Haunted House. 

Travel Tip: When you visit a museum, go to the guest service desk, and ask if they have any special programs for scout badges.

Girl Scout's Powder Puff Pinewood Derby: Girls get to Make a Car and Race too!

Why Can't Girl Scouts Enter a Pinewood Derby? 

Our local scouts learned a lesson in sharing when the Boy Scouts loaned our troop their Pinewood Derby Track. This got us thinking, why can't the girls and boy enter the same Pinewood Derby? Oh well, at least we have the Powder Puff Derby. Enjoy!

Ally got to participate in her First Pinewood Derby with the local area chapter of Girl Scouts. A local Boy Scout Troop let the organizers borrow their track so this could take place. Yes, Girl Scouts now do this event too!

Not sure if it was just this chapter or for all Girl Scouts, but it was the Second Annual event. It was a wonderful chance for daughter and dad to do something together, and I am not sure who had more fun. Although she didn't win, she did get a few Seconds and other places (each girl got to race eight times).
