How to Make a Snowman Mobile

It's easy to make a snowman winter craft with these pre-cut snowflakes from the Dollar Store, but you could  also cut them from white foam paper.  This easy activity is perfect for pre school.

We tied the silver strings that came in the package (meant for hanging) between two snowflakes to from the snowman's body. Then, we headed for the junk drawer and found bits of felt, baubles, and beads for decorating. The paper scarf is a Free Printable Snowman Activity from Alex Toys. Insert ribbon to hang from the ceiling or tape to a window.

Edible Art and Crafts Groundhog Day Recipes honoring Punxsutawney Phil

Recipes for Groundhog Day? That doesn't sound appetizing, but these are fun kid-friendly food crafts.

Groundhog Day, such a cute creature, but so few cute edible art and crafts out there. You've heard of Punxsutawney Phil? He's like a little teddy bear crossed with a beaver. He's so popular he has his own website with lesson plans for his special day. This is just one of our many marshmallow activities for kids. Enjoy!

Groundhog Craft for Companion Snack.

I noticed most of the Groundhog Activities and Crafts out there look like tiny, adorable teddy bears. Groundhogs aren't so cute in real life. So, we focused on his true features. Note the tiny ears and big nose. I forgot to add his big teeth!

We used an upside down Snyder's Pretzel Chip, an old-fashioned oatmeal cookie, a small chocolate marshmallow, and holiday icing to glue it together. I stuck some green chips from the icing into the pretzel for eyes. IDK. Scroll down for the traditional teddy bear variety.

Doily Heart Pouch for Valentine's Candy.

Get to the Dollar Store and buy a pack of heart doilies for these Valentine Classroom Crafts. For the pouch above, we used two doilies for each side to give it a little more strength.

Lay the heart doilies on top of one another, cut gift wrapping ribbon about 15" (for small doily), and begin weaving in and out of the outermost layer of holes to stitch doilies together. At the top of the heart, leave an opening at the "v" tying off the ribbon. Fill your heart pouch with candies for a classroom valentine or make a special gift for teacher.

Construction paper, markers, scissors, glue, and scrap gift bags.

How to make the game:

Cut out pieces per pattern above. Glue monkey's face together. When gluing monkey face to paper; glue only  the outermost edge. Important: do not glue the top of the paper down (between his ears). Now you have a pocket to store your game pieces. Cut out game pieces and write simple sight words on the arrows and hearts. Make sure to use lots of action words, pronouns, nouns, and verbs.

Ideas for heart words might include feeling words like happy, sad, mad, funny.

Arrow words should include words like the, boy, girl, I, a, dog, cat, was, is, could, ran, likes. Cut more than 10 arrows to make the sentences more interesting.

How to play the game: (two players)

You will need 2 dice. Place hearts upside down on table. Each player takes turn drawing for a total of 5 hearts. Hold in hands like cards or place face down on table. Each player takes a die. Youngest player rolls first. Player must roll a 3 or 6. When a 3 is rolled player draws an arrow from the pocket. When a 6 is drawn player draws 2 arrows. With each turn, the player tries to form a simple sentence. Player must pass if they cannot make a sentence. Players can work together to make sentences too. The first player to use all of their conversation hearts wins!

Disney on Ice World's of Fantasy at Banker's Life Fieldhouse: Tow Mater Steals the Show

Tow Mater Printable Coloring Page

We saw Disney on Ice World's of Fantasy at Banker's Life Fieldhouse last night, and Tow Mater stole the show! At least, that's what my eight-year-old son thought. He grinned from ear to ear astonished at seeing Tow Mater in the flesh. It was truly life coming full circle for us.

Disney on Ice Worlds of Fantasy Tow Mater

You see, in 2004, I attended Disney on Ice, Monster's Inc. when he was just a bun in the oven. I'd never seen anything like it. I couldn't wait to take him one day. Well, apparently, I waited one or two days too long. He hated  The Little Mermaid, growled through Tinkerbell, and complained Toy Story was boring and for babies. Good thing I brought his 6-year-old sis along. She loved Cars, endured The Little Mermaid, adored Tinkerbell, and giggled through Toy Story.

When asked, What was your favorite part? My son said, "The only thing good was Tow Mater, he had a real amber light just like on Daddy's plow." And, my daughter said, "The queen looked real and Tinkerbell really looked like Tinkerbell. Here's what I didn't like about Toy Story: the boy's hair looked like plastic, but the girl's hair (you know, Barbie) looked like real."

Maybe, I had too many years to build up my anticipation, but I preferred the magic in the Monster's Inc. version. The Little Mermaid was a beautiful display of skating artistry. In kid speak that spells boring. In fact, the daddy slept through it, but to be fair, he'd only had two hours of sleep the night before. My favorite part was also Tow Mater. Who doesn't love him? Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy hosted. As much as I hate to say it, I think they are has-beens. Please don't tell Mickey, I loved him. He was one of the very first dolls in my collection. I guess it happens to the best of us.

Goofy Disney on Ice

This show catered to the preschoolers and the princesses. Perfect, if you have either. My little, spirited "Princess" sat still all through Tinkerbell.  Now, that was truly magical!
