Snowman Craft for Kids out of Egg Shells by Mama Mia

Snowman Crafts for Kids Eggshell Snowman

One of my old blogging buddies came up with this cute snowman craft. You could make a whole day of learning with preschoolers or homeschoolers with this little project. For a science lesson, discuss the properties of an egg, boil some eggs, remove the shells, eat the eggs, and craft with the shells! Imagine the possibilities if you colored your eggs with Easter egg dye first. You can make egg shell mosaics for an art lesson for kids. We've got a flock of chickens, so I am always looking some activity to do with eggs.

Shop at Dollar Store for Family Gifts from Kids and teach about spending

Teach about finances and spending with a trip to the Dollar Store as a Math lesson this Christmas

Want to do something fun  neat with the kiddos?

Okay, it might not be fun for you, but the kids will have a blast while learning valuable lessons about finances, sharing, anticipation, and 'you can't have everything you want'.

Christmas Shopping Teaches Spending and Math Lesson
I buy these every year and embellish with glitter and baubles.

Give them $10-20 to spend on gifts for Grandma, Grandpa, Cousins, Siblings, Etc.

Dollar Store Gifts.
1. Write a list with everyone who needs a gift.
2. Decide on the gift spending limit ($1-2) per person.
3. Let your kids shop and guide them with prompts.
4. Ornaments are a good option, you can personalize them later with the date and make it a tradition.

"Is that the best bang for your buck?"
"What looks more valuable?"
"Will this be a tie-on gift?"
"How will we package this?"
"Do we need to buy paper, a bag, or basket?"
"No, we aren't buying for ourselves today."

Remember, presentation is everything. Let the gift receivers know that this gift was bought for them by your child. It is so exciting for the kids. You can discuss budgeting money and time.  (Let's not stay in this store forever.)

Let the kids wrap the gifts.
It doesn't matter what it looks like, this is their gig, not yours.
Don't ruin the fun by being a perfectionist.

Oh what fun!  The gift exchange will be extra special, and your kids will learn the joy of giving.

  • The kids picked out two squishy skeleton heads in the Toy aisle. The eyes pop out when you squeeze them.  It will make a great stress ball for Daddy.
  • A Million Dollar Chocolate bar and a brownie candle for their teenage sister.
  • A bead and word jewelry kit for their cousin and a jingle toy for the cat.
  • We found science experiments for my classes: snow, grow a crystal tree, and fish eggs.

My kids had the best time wrapping the presents which made up for the stressful shopping experience.

Store clerks and customers were laughing at us and saying things like, "My kids are grown." or "Oh, Honey, I feel your pain."  Some just gave worried looks.

There was a lot of screaming and rivalry over who is buying what for whom.

And Mommy's quiet, whisper screaming, "Put that down." "I said, No!" "Get back here right now!"

And...  "You better hope Santa didn't see you do that."

Jake:  (Whimpering) "It's too late. I know he already did. Now I won't get what I want!"

Isn't Christmas fun?

Remember Dave Coulier, That Other Guy From Full House?

He's got a new web series, "Can't Get Arrested".  It looks fun.

Here's the press release:
Full House Stars Dave Coulier and Jodie Sweetin Team Up on New Web Series

"Can't Get Arrested" Co-Stars Include Candace Cameron, Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins, and O.J.'s Infamous Houseguest Kato Kaelin

Full House star and stand-up comedian Dave Coulier is reuniting with his sitcom co-star, Jodie Sweetin, as stars in a new web series titled Can't Get Arrested.
Created and written by Jordan Rozansky and Dave Coulier, Can't Get Arrested guest stars Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins from Saved by the Bell, O.J. Simpson's houseguest, Kato Kaelin, and another Full House alum, Candace Cameron.

Much like the hit comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm, this new series features Coulier and Sweetin playing themselves - or versions of themselves - dealing with an unexpected chance to rekindle their careers. When the paparazzi photoshop a nipple slip into a picture of Jodie Sweetin innocently eating lunch, she's furious. Dave Coulier, on the other hand, sees it as an opportunity to get the two of them back into the spotlight.

The scam works so well that Coulier entices other stars, including Haskins and Kaelin, to join in. He tells Haskins to pick a fight with Kaelin at a restaurant and the fight pics end up in the tabloids.

"There are a couple of mishaps along the way and the media attention backfires on some of the stars," said Coulier. "Jodie and I have a bit of a clash by the end of the series that ends our friendship. And it's all because I get some press for Candace [Cameron], who is then able to get a job that Jodie was up for."

A five-episode run begins Monday, October 31, 2011 at www.CantGetArrestedShow.com. One new episode will debut each Monday through November 28.

Easy Preschool Snowman in a Jar Preschool Activity with Cotton Balls

Snowman in a Jar is the Perfect, Easy Preschool Activity for Winter

This post contains affiliate links.

This easy kids snowman activity gem, an adorable snowman in a jar, was designed by my 5 yr. old. It is perfect for developing preschool fine motor skills

The little hands stuff the cotton balls or marshmallows (we used fiber fill) into the jar and then carefully add in his facial features.

Sure, you can draw the face on the outside, but little hands will develop more skills if they work to find the perfect placement of that carrot nose. It's a great sensory play activity too. You might also DIY Sensory Snow for play-based learning.

Preschool Winter Activity for kids how to make a Snowman in a jar

This is my all time favorite snowman preschool activity.

You Will Need:

Fiberfill, cotton balls, marshmallows, or popcorn
Candy canes and peppermints
Buttons, Pom-poms
Scrap construction paper, felt, or foam pieces

Stuff a jar full with popcorn, marshmallows, cotton balls, or fiber fill. Have kids squeeze in cut-out shapes for eyes, nose, and buttons. The kids can also do the mouth inside, but it is more fun and gives a 3D effect if you draw it on the jar with a permanent marker. Glue a pom-pom to the top or tie on a scarf.  Voila!
