Mayhem is a huge fan of Barack Obama so when tasked with the assignment to make a "worker" puppet for  Social Studies class she said, "Barack is a worker for America." Thus, the paper bag puppet below. In one hand he has a microphone for giving speeches (she loves to watch). In the other hand, he has a ring for his wife, Michelle Obama, because "they are married together".

This one inspired the printable .

So, when I was a kid in elementary school I remember the big election doings of Jimmy Carter. He was my favorite President for years. A real life cartoon character with peanuts and Billy too boot. Shh... I guess he still is today, but don't tell any political analyst or anyone like that. I love all of the humanitarian work he does, his sense of humor, his forward thinking on going GREEN, and his smile. Hmm... I think I see a pattern here.

Who is your favorite President? Remember a particular election?  Now, if you will pardon me for rushing off... I've got to go make a Jimmy Carter paper bag puppet.

I asked some fellow bloggers to share their Mardi Gras ideas and was surprised to learn that America's famous Fat Tuesday is also known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day in the U.K.

In Indianapolis, an after-school group holds a parade in the downtown Arts District. The year I participated, my students chose an "Under the Sea" theme.

We made giant fish and seahorse patterns from those huge school scrolls of paper, decorated the sea creatures with glitter, stuffed with newspapers, stapled closed, and added dowels so the kiddos could march with them. One of our parents even rented a walrus costume to join us. I enjoyed everything about this parade except for the cold February in Indiana!

So, after reviewing the posts about this fun February Tuesday, I decided to combine the two ideas. We're making Mardi Gras King Pancakes to celebrate. What's more fun than finding a baby Jesus in your pancake?

The last part takes some patience but the results are worth it.

Lay out your glitter. Add one color at a time and let dry. For example, take a bottle of school glue and fill in all the areas on the pattern that you would like green. Sprinkle on green glitter. Allow to dry completely. Shake off excess glitter. Repeat until all colors have been filled.
